in 2010, i celebrated my birthday with matt and todd in san antonio, texas. they made the entire day one big celebration. here are some of the highlights:
i started the day off opening a gift bag full of candy, treats, and passes to sea world. seriously? so cool. then we went downtown to buy passes to a mirror maze and laser challenge. the tickets were an "all you can adventure" full-day pass. i thought it was really fun, i rocked at the mirror maze, but the laser challenge was not my forte. let's just say i am no catherine zeta-jones.
then we went to lunch at boudro's, a texas bistro on the riverwalk. mmmm...this cone full of tortilla chips sure looks yummy.
if only i had a man who would whip me up some fresh guacamole..with no red onions. voila!
and here is the rest of my tasty lunch:
and while i was in the restroom, matt and todd were sneaky little buggers and they ordered me dessert with a candle for my birthday. i actually had keylime pie, but my candle wouldn't stay lit, so this is me blowing out the candle in their bread pudding. it's difficult to come up with wishes...i feel like i have everything a girl could possibly want. well...almost.
while we were in san antonio, it was unusually cold. the restaurant was kind enough to offer warm ponchos to their patrons. seriously, i didn't want to wear this thing...i just kept thinking, "well if we don't walk away from this experience with lice or bedbugs, it's not for lack of trying." amazingly, i think we escaped unscathed.
after lunch, we headed over to the movie theater to watch tangled. i thought it was SO good. and it was cool that in the movie, it was HER birthday, too. she was exactly half my age. i was truly jealous of rapunzel, because her boyfriend was zachary levi. aaahhhhhhhhhhhh....zachary. how i love thee.

here is a photo of matt and me at the alamo on my birthday. isn't that walkway full of arches cool?
and to end the day of celebration, we went to tony roma's. matt used to work at tony roma's, and even though he has eaten there millions of times, he eventually gave in to todd's and my pleading to eat there. it was YUMMY!
throughout my life, i've had some fantastic birthdays, but this has got to be one of the best. i will outright admit that i am spoiled...and i see nothing wrong with that, because i really, truly do appreciate my life and all my wonderful friends and family. the rest of my day was full of phone calls and facebook wishes. it was terrific. and when i got home for my Christmas vacation, my family all gave me some money for my birthday. i had to use the money to buy new "professional" clothes for my fieldwork experiences at school. i am now the proud new owner of 5 pairs of khaki pants and just as many black shirts. the uniform of champions, apparently. i did splurge and buy myself something fun, too. have any of you played JUST DANCE on the wii? it is freaking awesome...just like my birthday in 2010!

Is your birthday on Facebook? I am a horrible person.
And those ponchos look almost as good as a Snuggie.
Could you have two better BFFs? Seriously, so fun...I'm jealous! Next year could the boys spoil you with a trip to Florida? ;) Glad you had a wonderful bday, you completely deserve to be spoiled! Love ya Nel!
Way to go, matt & todd!! What an awesome b-day for an awesome chicka!!
What a lucky girl! Sounds like you had a great time with great friends!
I'm glad you had such a great birthday! I think i've eaten at that restaurant on the riverwalk....but i didn't get to wear the cool poncho. You have all the good luck!
Yay for Matt and Todd (whoever they are) for spoiling you. You deserve it!! Your lunch looks yuuuummmmm.
I like the way the art in the background looks like a special party hat just for you when you are blowing out your candles.
