in the good ol' days

i just got home from watching the 3rd & 4th grade girls play fast pitch softball. it was a toasty hour on those hard benches, but it was fun to see the girls play. at this age, mostly just the pitchers, catchers, and batters get to play, while the rest of the team stands around and waits for something to happen.

anyway, it got me thinking about when i was this age. we didn't have a girls' league. we didn't have fast pitch SOFT ball, we didn't have matching uniforms. no, when i was this age, summer and i proudly placed those trucker hats on our heads, snagged a mitt and played fast pitch baseball with the boys. and maybe it's just my own memory, but it seems like we all PLAYED. a few of us could hit the ball over the fence, the outfielders had to be hoppin', and the infielders were always bruised up from line drives. ah, the good ol' days.

then after the game, i'd crawl into the back window of the ford ltd, my mom would drive me to patio for an ice cream, then she'd drop me off at the pool for the rest of the day. it was great. i am old.

yes, that's me in the middle of the back row. the one in the button-down blouse. like i said, no uniforms. summer is right in front of me. this photo may actually be from when we were in the 1st or 2nd grade, i'm not sure, but my chest is still flat and that wasn't the case in 4th grade. whatever, whenever we're still cool.
