ouch! that hurt!

saturday was my grandpa's birthday. a bunch of my cousins were able to come to visit him for the big day. it was fun to see them all.

i will do an official post of this event a little later, but for now my brain hurts too bad to do it justice.

why does my brain hurt? because my niece gave me a minor concussion. granted it was all my fault, but still, she's a scrawny, little thing. who apparently packs a mighty wallop, especially when aided by a metal door.

here's the story...one of my cousin's little boys was playing with the front door. he seemed a little frustrated with the fact that he couldn't get the knob to turn and he was anxious to get out. i knelt beside him and explained that it sometimes helps to say, "little pig, little pig! let me in." it was at that precise moment that my niece came dashing back into the house to get her coat. the side of my head was whacked VERY hard. the door stopped completely. my niece's eyes were ginormous. she immediately said, "oh, sorry." and i was proud of myself for not screaming any not-appropriate-for-a-room-full-of-children words from the shocking pain.

well, after about 24 hours of nausea, throbbing head, dizziness, general pain. i thought i should visit the doctor. but i didn't. i have no insurance, but i do have access to the internet, so i looked up the symptoms and treatment of a concussion. now that i have been self-diagnosed and self-treated, i do feel quite a bit better. not completely, though.

i was lucky enough to find a substitute for my class today, so i'm just sitting at home taking it easy. that is one of the internet prescribed treatments, afterall.

the one and only previous time i've had a concussion was when i was in the first grade and slipped on the ice on the school playground. i had meant to slide across it, i wasn't anticipating the loss of balance and collision with the black top. i was probably due a good whack in the head by this point. i'm just hoping it doesn't have any long-lasting side effects. they said one of the symptoms is that you repeat yourself a lot, without being aware of it. they said one of the symptoms is that you repeat yourself a lot, without being aware of it. they said one of the symptoms is that you repeat yourself a lot, without being aware of it. i haven't noticed that yet, so i'm probably all good.

Ouch is right! So sorry. Take lots of meds and you'll feel better. Can't wait to see pics from the party! :)

I've never had an official head injury. Although I have had moments when we wondered if I lost my mind.

So sorry, Nel. I hope that the party wasn't ruined for you. Do you remember the Frisbee incident outside Rich Hall? Are you sure you didn't have a concussion from that? Your goose egg was quite impressive. Get feeling better soon!

Oh yes. I had forgotten about the Frisbee incident. However, as I recall, the instant goose egg was enormous, but I recovered quickly. This time, there was no visible proof of injury, but it's been 2 days and I'm still not feeling up to par. I'd take on a Frisbee anyday over a metal door.

Thanks for the good laugh, Cristy. Those were such fun times. I still hate Ultimate Frisbee, by the way.

yikes! that sounds painful. Take it easy and I hope you are feeling better soon. I'm anxiously awaiting the post man to deliver my package!

I hope it wasn't Gavin who you were helping open the door. Feel better soon!

Arah, it wasn't. It was Ben, but it was my own stupidity that caused the accident. Who puts their head in front of a heavily-trafficked door? I'm an idiot. I'm feeling a little better already. Thanks.

Do you really have a concussion!? Poor you! I hope you are feeling better...as I haven't been able to check the blog regularly and I've missed a couple days worth of posts!

P.S. Isn't Ben the cutest little guy?!
