spoiler alert! if you haven't seen the show and don't want to know any details, look away.
i just returned home from the movie theatre, and now i am curious as to what you all thought about the film. overall, i thought it was fantastic, but there were two things that REALLY bugged me.
first, i understand that for time's sake a lot of the contents of the book have to be left out, but i don't get why they change, or worse yet, ADD things that never happened which seem to have no point. for example, the entire scene at the weasleys' home when a few death eaters arrive, give chase, then proceed to burn that awesome house down. huh? what was the purpose of that addition? in the book it specifically says that dumbledore places a protective spell around their home while harry is staying there so that no such thing could ever happen.
second, why did they decide to make harry potter out to be a completely idiotic coward in the astronomy tower when dumbledore was killed? dumbledore was supposed to freeze him beneath his invisibility cape, rendering him entirely useless to give him aid, but instead they chose to have snape approach and shush harry before he kills albus as harry stands by and watches. dumb.
those were the main changes that really bugged me. i know there were other differences, but they didn't seem as drastic to me. like, what happened to all the memories of the gaunts? weren't they sort of important? how did dumbledore manage to have enough strength to save harry from the water creatures with that amazing display of fire? he's supposed to be so weak from drinking the potion and the effects of the horcrux that he can hardly stand, already near death with no chance of being healed, that's what makes it okay for snape to kill him, right? how will they explain that in the 7th and 8th movies? oh well. if only my imagination could be sucked out of my head like a wisp of memory and displayed for all to see...wait a sec, that might not be such a good idea...yikes!

I loved the movie. And I agree with everything you said. In fact, I came home and immediately checked the book on a few things because I thought I was going mad. (Please read this entire comment with an English accent). The only thing I can figure is that perhaps it needed to be this way to pave the way for the next movie? Dunno.
We saw it last night, too. I really liked it. However, I haven't read the books, only Joseph. You do raise some good questions. :)
